Xastir is multi-threaded and multi-process. You often will see multiple processes in a "ps" or "top" listing. For instance, open up an internet feed and you'll usually see four processes:
Xastir main thread
pthreads supervisory thread
interface read thread
interface write thread
Start up the Server Ports and you'll see at least one additional process, more if you or somebody else connects up to port 2023.
If you're not using the Server Ports, turn them off (Interface menu). Perhaps you already have something running at that port, or there's some other problem preventing Xastir from starting up a listening socket there.
