I cringe at you saying that only because I've been looking at udev all
day today (specifically seeing how in CentOS I go about having devices
created at boot time, since the ones I created in my custom RPM work
fine when I install it but disappear upon reboot).  But yes, you're
probably right - that's the solution that should work no matter what the
device appears to be when it connects.  How I didn't think of that today
while looking at the exact same package for other reasons will be
attributed to melted brains from work.
