[Xastir] Opinions sought on new maps

Surely there will be a few opinions.

I'm looking at obtaining some of these maps "Ozraster"

offered formats are 
.MAP and .OZFX3
.VRT and .MMI
RMAP

samples are offered for download.

Are any of these formats compatible with Xastir?
Any advice on choosing a format?

I have been converting mrsid format maps (NSWTopoView bottom right of
web page)  but the last conversions started to fail. They are also
large files and very slow on the minimalist Eeepc701 in the car.
