I think that it was about five or six months ago that I last built it on Squeeze.  It went OK then, with the latest version of Meteo.  
 
Make sure that you have the latest version.  I know that at one time the files on the Meteo web site were not the latest version and there were MANY problems related to the config / build scripts.  You might want to join the Meteo mail list if you are not already on it, and ask there to make sure that you have the latest version.
