Having let the smoke out of the igate's computer...
I needed other things to explore.
I started on Weather Alerts and Fire Weather Warnings for AU.

says that the client side stuff needs sorting out.

I've started with the (rural) shape files and written some dbfawk files
for them.

(anyone looking for the coastal waters files, the links are broken)

Now that I have the areas displayed on the map, what else needs to
happen when a weather alert message comes in, so that the message

is converted into an area on the map which has a different colour?

There aren't any current warnings for my area, so I can't see if
nothing else needs to be done!
