Liz,
I have downloaded a flle set for Sydney with no issues. 
I am currently in the process of rewriting my copy of the dbfawk files to read the 2012 release of the TIGERmaps here in the United States. When I get them fleshed out, I will be submitting them to the group for testing purposes. 
I can take a look at your .dbfawk's and try them out.

I've been putting these files on the Sourceforge tracker.
The colour schemes are unconventional and will be revised after I get
some trained advice on mapping colour schemes.

and I would really like somebody to test the instructions and comment
on improvement. 
This is because getting downloads from Geoscience Australia is quite
frustrating. I have not described every single step of the process and
would appreciate knowing if the summary is adequate for others to
follow.
