Ok,  something is clearly not right.   I'll run a couple of tests and package 
up some test files if you have the time.   It would be nice to track it down 
and at least understand it.

On my regular desktop which admitedly is not a Rpi I had US and Canada all 
onscreen and only saw a barely discernable increase in cpu.  So I'm intriqued 
by the problem.
