If someone can properly compare this procedure against an RF Signal
Generator, or a deviation meter or service monitor, please let us know the
results. The page can then be tweaked and hopefully that note at the top
can be removed.

The page listed above _may_ allow one to set deviation using only a Linux
box and an RTL dongle, by telling the modem to send in either a 1200 Hz or
2200 Hz tone (but not both at once). No fancy test equipment needed.
