Just to follow up... The foreground color was un-initialized when creating the original window, so linux seems to default to black, where solaris was defaulting to white. Should be fixed in cvs now, I checked solaris 7, 8, 9, suse?-sparc, redhat7.?-intel both with and without the -i private colormap. Chris. KD6ZWR
