[Xastir-Dev] Symbols disappearing and malloc errors without crashing

Well, I spoke too soon.

I didn't get a dump file (or don't know where to find it if I did get one)
but did lose all icons and tracks about 5 min ago.

Here's the error:

Malloc[79580]: Deallocation of a pointer not malloced: 0x3cc7b30;....

The station count was around 2024. I'm still seeing stations being reported
in the lower left corner. If I do a find on a station the map moves and
redraws to the right position on the displayed map. Just no icons and no
tracks.

Just for fun I just did a stop and then start of my one active feed (feed #2
went down about the same time the worm hit so probably a firewall got
tightened at the EDU that it is hosted at). I got my icons and tracks back
as soon as the cache was finished downloading including the aged tracks and
icons showing as faded out and/or dots.

Ok, so who wants to put what debug code in where for me to download and try.
Before I leave today I'll update to this afternoon's CVS.

Thanks for the offer Curt.

So far, I don't have any dumps to pass on to you.

It has been running since Friday with two regional feeds and two mods.

First, I got the CVS from Friday.

Second, I fixed the environmental variable that has to be set before doing
MAKE. I found out that I had typed it wrong in my .cshrc. So, making sure
that

setenv MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET 10.2

actually reads that way _really_ helps<G>

Well I'm not a Mac guy, but malloc I'm familiar with. Under the
hood it's Unix anyway. I'd be happy to take a look at it.

Is that Mac totally reliable with other programs? What I'm looking
for is temperature extremes causing memory/CPU errors and such. If
you've added memory recently, changed your CPU or cpu speed, or
updated your OS recently, you may want to wait a bit to see if
everything is stable.

Also, are you now running Xastir for longer timer periods, or on the
'net feeds longer or have more feeds connected? It's possible that
the memory size of Xastir has now grown up into an area of
questionable memory on the computer. I've had the problem before,
and it took extensive memory tests to find the problem.

Any other Mac OSX users having similar problems?

P.S. Of course it could be a very simple Xastir coding problem that
is causing it. Just trying to check all possibilities!
