Curt, et al,

I'm sorry for stiring this up and not having the time to follow up on it.
Here is what I recall from last week.

Mandrake 9.1, fresh install, all apppropriate libraries installed from
packages. XAstir would compile just fine. Everything from the 1.0.0
release to the latest CVS. It would start up and run, too. But:

1) shapefiles would not show up in map chooser even though shapelib
(1.2.8) was installed and it was linked fine. All of the files were in the
right location and readable. I did not test if other formats worked
properly.

2) Internet connections would connect and login, but only once did I see
stations appear on the screen as icons or populate the station list. The
traffic indicator was showing good connection, but not flashing. This was
verified with multiple servers, including a local copy of javAPRSsvr.

And that's all I know. Unfortunately for this effort, I spent 20 hours of
day for the last week and I will be spending all of this week with my race
car team. (Shameless plug: http://www.cyclone-racing.com/fhome.htm)
