A checkbox, hidden away somewhere under the File->Configure menu,
might still be a good idea.  There might be a case where something
isn't handled "just-so" by dbfawk and you need to get usable maps up
in a hurry.

Then again, the current Shapefile code could use some tweaking in
order to make sure that unknown map types are displayed in some
usable default manner.  Right now you can get some odd behavior with
some maps.  Of course labels are the main problem, but you can
always turn them off.

So... Thinking about that last paragraph, perhaps having a default
dbfawk file that just draws points/lines/polygons as white or black
with no labels would be a good idea.  That's what I would do with
the generic hard-coded Shapefile routine anyway.

I think I just talked myself out of the dbfawk disable button idea.
