We have code already in Xastir that does similar things, so it won't
be much of a task to abscond with that code and munge it into
something completely different.  Between the Tiger code and the
snapshot code you can get all the pieces you need, then just create
a new source-code module for it and merge it into the Xastir build.
I can help with the build process changes.
