What ever became of this?

http://lists.xastir.org/pipermail/xastir-dev/2007-July/002674.html

I am perhaps interested in contributing to this effort if its still alive.

FWIW, The application I am building uses a PostGIS database with
GeoDjango serving up the 'views' of the data. The database is all
setup to store position tracks, and we are now stuffing this with
scripts that parse GPX or NMEA logs. Next step for me is to hook this
up to grab positions from APRS.

Any pointers from anyone?

Thanks,

Jeff
