The libtiff_private files are used if you don't have the libtiff development 
files installed or if the libgeotiff configure can't find them.  See the
README file in libtiff_private.

If you don't have the libtiff development files or the source installed then
configure prints the warning message you're seeing.  It looks like your 
slackware libtiff install doesn't include the needed header files.

There's nothing wrong with this, it's just that if you have a version of 
libtiff that differs from that of the header file included by libgeotiff
you might have problems getting it to work.  Again, see the README file
to find out what version of libtiff the header files are from.
