I had a very similar problem on RedHat 8.0. In the end I got ImageMagick 
working by uninstalling the RedHat ImageMagick and ImageMagick-devel rpms 
then compiling ImageMagick from source. I appreciate this is a workaround, 
not a fix, but as a total non-geek I was very happy just to get it working. 
Might work for you too.
