Easiest way I know of would be to measure with a DMM and bring up
Minicom/Seyon or some other terminal program, watching the handshake
lines as it activates the port.

It'd also be nice if you had one of those LED breakout boxes, so you
could see which handshakes are activating on all the boxes, and in
particular which handshake is making the Kantronics cable function
properly.  Perhaps a different handshake is being used in Xastir.
We use the DTR line.

I'm just trying to think of all the possibilities.  It could well be
an Xastir problem that crept in since HSP was last tested.  I
haven't heard anyone commenting whether or not it is currently
working for them, other than you.
