I just filed a bug on the SourceForge buglist.  I'll try to take a
look at that one shortly.  Just hanging one of the LED breakout
boxes on the port should allow me to debug it sufficiently I think.
If not, I have an HSP adapter somewhere at home and can plug in a
GPS to it.  Actually I should be able to do it with just a GPS and a
cable, which I already have with me.  I won't need the HSP adapter
for debugging this.

I think the current code waits for a valid GPS string before it
switches to the TNC side again.  You might verify that you have a
GPS plugged in to the correct port on the HSP, and that it's set to
NMEA out mode.  If either a GPRMC or a GPGGA string is received by
Xastir, it should switch back to TNC mode until the next time
period.
