Yes.  It's likely that you're getting some strings in there that are
causing Xastir to choke later on it, perhaps with a buffer overflow.
We used to have killer packet problems like this quite a bit, and as
buffer overflow problems got fixed, most of them went away.

Are you still using HSP mode while it's sitting there?  HSP mode
will cause strings to get hacked up both on the GPS port and the TNC
port.

It'd be good to see what's in the logs before you start up Xastir
again.  I wouldn't leave logging on permanently though unless you
set up cron's to trim them back.
