[Xastir] System power needed

2.5 is the current development tree and is changing very rapidly. I
wouldn't run it in a production environment yet. Its probably even less
appropriate for a new user.
2.4 is the current stable branch. You can do plenty of tweaking in the
kernel and apps for better speed once you become comfortable with the
system.
