[Xastir] Can't find ImageMagick lib

I am trying to install xastir-1.1.4 using Suse 8.2. When I do ./configure I 
 get:
  " configure: WARNING: *** Cannot find ImageMagick library files:  Building 
w/o ImageMagick support. ***"

I have ImageMagic 5.5.5-28. The library files are there. PATH includes 
usr/lib/, usr/local/lib, and usr/X11R6/lib. I cannot find any required items 
in the README1st file that I do not have. Can someone help me on this?
