[Xastir] Terminal Program for Linux??

I think this may be a silly question but I never thought of it. I just
connected my TNC to the Linux box for the first time and am wondering
how can I get to the command prompt ? I am sure you can do it in a shell
but is there a simple terminal program of likes of Hyperterminal or
ProComm so I can get it up and running quickly ?
