[Xastir] installation messages

After installing new computer that got zapped by Thor, I am getting the 
following CVS errors on a 2.4 gig system:
 cvs -d:pserver:anonymous at cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/xastir login
Logging in to :pserver:anonymous at cvs.sourceforge.net:2401/cvsroot/xastir
CVS password:
cvs [login aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)

Created the .cvsrc file.
What have I overlooked?
