Supposedly if you have tiff 3.6.0-beta, you no longer need to mess
with private include files and such from libtiff when installing
libgeotiff. Do you by any chance have any older libtiff packages
still installed, in particular a libtiff development package? I'm
wondering if you didn't get part of and old package and part of a
new package installed, and libgeotiff is getting confused.

If you're running an RPM system, you can type:

    "rpm -q -a | grep tiff"

Look all of the packages containing "tiff". If you see any old
packages, remove them, then reinstall the newer libtiff, redo the
libgeotiff configure/compile/install (removing any config.cache
files before you start).
