RH has both packages. The PostGres package is available as a tarball
from their site, and typically compiles and installs well. It's been a
while since I used Slack... which was my distro of choice, but abandoned
because I needed a better package management system some while ago...
but I don't recall it being too hard to load tarballs into cleanly.
Still, your argument is well taken, and we're at a point where getting
an idea which database is more universal would be beneficial. Of
course, we could be really generic, retain only recognized generic SQL
statements, and then have a config switch the user sets for deciding how
to connect to said database, but that's starting to get a little
far-fetched:-)
So:
Slackware: MySQL
RedHat MySQL PostGreSQL
SuSE
Debian
YellowDog
SCO/Caldera
Others?
