I've had that same problem before on a windows machine with a funky 
wheel mouse.  Took me forever to figure out it was the mouse and not 
software...but the wheel would sometimes stick where it was erratically 
triggering the scroll function.

I haven't actually had the problem with xastir...but I have had it in a 
bunch of other apps when the mouse was acting up.

Not sure if it's the same problem you're having but it may be worth 
looking into.
