[Xastir] Xwindows spew

Since I blew away Cygwin and did a reinstall, I now have a bunch of text
dumped out on the screen.
I get to see a bunch of declare statements and such. It looks like it is
settign all the environment variables, etc.
 
What would be causing this now?
 
I also can't seem to get Xastir to talk to my D700 anymore. Which interface
do I use? I thought I used serial TNC w/GPS on AUX port, but it doesn't want
to talk to the radio anymore.
 
I had Xastir running, trying to talk to the D700, and then started up
UI-View. UI-View complained about the serial port being in use, so it looks
like Xastir had access, but it wasn't talking.
 
What language is the tnc-startup.d700 file written in? I know the commands
that the D700 understands, but where can I find info on the META commands,
etc
 
Specifically, lines starting with # are usually comments. 
Is this line commented out, or is it acted upon?
