Alan and I (mostly Alan) just went through testing the specfile, so
building a current RPM should work fine.  I wrote some notes in the
Docs area of Xastir's SourceForge page that describe how to build
one.  You might want to make sure you're running the same version of
OS and have the same libraries loaded on the laptop, but it should
work just fine.
