I don't and haven't ever used TNC-specific programs.  If you're
looking for a good terminal emulator, I prefer Minicom.  It works
best in an 80x25 xterm window (stretch the xterm window higher by
one line).

Another possibility is Seyon, which is an X11 terminal emulator.
