Do you have sshd running? Can you shell in from another machine? I've 
had to do that on occasion - not xastir related - for other problems 
when I loose keyboard functions. Usually due to my fan-dangled KVM here.

You shouldn't have telnetd running - but if you're isolated from the 
world - it's an option too.
