You don't need any of that anymore.  Just "./configure".  All of the
--with stuff is taken care of if the libraries and headers files are
found.  I was wondering why your Shapelib line didn't say "yes" or
"no"...

Interesting.  Are you running this as another user, one other than
the one that started up the X11 server?  If so, you'll need to type
"xhost localhost" as that other user before X11 will let you use the
display.

That's certainly interesting.  Looks like X11 is having fits.  No
idea why this is, unless it's related to the rejection notice you
just got.
