Nope, at least not for this Mac OS X 10.3 user.  A few days after my 
last post (about two or three weeks ago) I got the latest GDAL/OGR via 
CVS and also updated xastir from CVS.  I grabbed sample 1:24k data sets 
from AL, TN, and GA with the same results: nothing displays.  I haven't 
reported back to the group because I've been on vacation and it's been 
busy at work, and I hoped to try it again with the latest code before 
making a report.  I may try to come up with a linux box of some sort to 
see if it's me, my data, or something OS X specific.

I do have xastir running now, watching the weather alerts fill in the 
counties.  Nice job, whoever came up with the idea and the code.
