[Xastir] Map Problem

I've loaded xastir, but I'm having no luck getting the maps to work.  I've
got ImageMagick installed and weget and libcurl, but I see no maps.  I see
from the status bar that xastir is "loading maps", or seems to be contacting
Tiger, but nothing...

Where should I start de-bugging this?  I can't seem to find a log file with
enough detail.  I tried the xastir's net log option, but I don't see
anything of use.  I thought I'd see something indicate it is trying to
contact the map server, but I don't.

Thoughts?
