Running xastir in X is fine. It's not really a problem I have with X, but
rather having the VNC server stay up all the time. The machine can probably
handle the load, but I'd like to have as few things running as possible.

I can't seem to make xastir work without starting the VNC server as it
complains there isn't a display. Maybe all I really need to do is start X
alone?

Probably several things. My main goal is to figure out APRS, as I plan to
use it in my Level III certification rocket to aid succesful recovery.
However, since I found I can display maps, I may want to see how I can use
it to enhance my weather site (http://weather.nincehelser.com).

Thanks
George
