Larry,

Compilation problems are usually related to missing libraries. I could
give you a list of all the library .debs I have installed, but I'm not
sure which ones are needed by xastir.  The "LIBS" line in the xastir
Makefile should be helpful.

What do the compilation error messages say?  That ususally is a good
clue to what you may be missing (although it may be an iterative
process).
