Looks like you might be duplicating efforts that were done by Ian,
the guy who edited the APRS spec years ago. He created an APRS
decoding script in Perl (at my suggestion), that turned out to be a
fairly complete decode of all of the things in the spec. He used
that to both debug the spec itself and to help provide people with a
standard decode program for working on software.
