Yes.  A native Windows or native MacOSX version would be possible.

Can't you still use VNC to fire up a remote client?  I think there
are things now in WinXP (Win2000 too) that allow this sort of
functionality out of the gate too, so they've learned a few things
from the Unix systems now.
