This is what the 802.11 packet 'sniffer', Kismet, does. It has a daemon 
in the background that captures the packets from the wireless card(s), 
another daemon (maybe integrated now) which constantly rotates the 
channels on the card(s), and a gui which displays it all nice-like. Of 
course, one can also use one of the several non-curses guis that others 
have written.

And it's all started up (the default ncurses gui, daemon, etc.) by one 
command.
