I'm doing Curt's trick now and running 2 instances of xastir, as 2 different
users.
1 instance has one weather port open to peet 2000 and one port open to ax25
tnc via serial port. This instance rarely goes over .2% -.5 % cpu usage for
many, many hours at a time.
The second instance as different user on same box is running only an internet
feed on port 10152 from first.aprs.net.
This second instance of xastir clearly slows down over just an hour or 2. Cpu
usage goes up in spurts to over 35% - 85% as viewed with TOP with 30 sec
interval. The longer it runs the larger the cpu numbers and the less
responsive this instance become in redrawing screen and drop down menus
command, the whole nine yards of functionality slow to a crawl.
Clearly there are issues with xastir handling the internet data. I don't know
for sure but I suspect that xastir builds up a data base or cache of some
kind that it has to periodically refer to or reparse data from. The longer
the program runs, the larger the cache or data base it has to refer to and
the more cpu cycles it takes to get thru that particular bits of routine.
Maybe its something else??
I cannot get profiling to work yet on my machine. Don't know if I'm doing
something wrong or what.. I am following the EXACT description for profiling
found in the xastire INSTALL file for developers at end of the file.
I could use some help here to see where the cpu cycles are going.
I cannot let this go as I see the program as a whole composied by this
behavior....
