I suspect it's a bug in the XPM library.  There were changes to the
XPM library recently to fix some security-related bugs.  They may
have introduced some new bugs in the process.  You might check to
see if there's a newer version of the XPM library available for your
system.

We make exactly one call to the XPM library to have it create an XPM
from one of our pixmaps, and write it to a disk file.  It's line
3041 of maps.c.  The equivalent section for printing is at line 2122
of the same file.
