I don't think so.  I've tried the AFU Knoppix xastir on half a dozen
machines, and on every one, the first letter or two of the pull down
menus is obscured by an icon or just not there with a hole.

It looks fine on my redhat system, but I compiled it myself there
rather than pulling from a binary.
I've actually never seen a hardware related font problem with XFree86.
 (I have seen hardware
related cursor problems, but disabling hardware cursor fixes that easily.)
