[Xastir] Debian font problem

That's interesting, as the menu width is not selected by Xastir.
Motif should resize the menu to fit the text we write to it.
Perhaps they're using Lesstif instead of Motif/OpenMotif.  There are
more bugs with Lesstif.  This might be one of them.
