I've made more progress on the LSB (Linux Standard Base) version of
Xastir. Here's the current list:

xastir 1.8.5 has been configured to use the following
  options and external libraries:

  Building with AX25 ................................. : no
Building with Festival ............................. : no
Building with GPSMan ............................... : no
Building with GraphicsMagick ....................... : yes
Building with libproj .............................. : yes
Building with GeoTiff .............................. : yes
  Building with GDAL/OGR ............................. : no
Building with ShapeLib ............................. : yes (internal)
Building with pcre ................................. : yes
Building with dbfawk ............................... : yes
Building with map caching .......................... : yes
  ----------------------------------------------------------
Building with ErrorPopups (Old Method) ............. : no
Building with libgc (Debug) ........................ : no
Building with profiling (Debug) .................... : no
Building with rtree indexing (Experimental) ........ : yes
Building with Linux Standard Base (Experimental) ... : yes

I believe the package on my ftp site has all of those options. I'd
like to hear from you if you try it, particularly if you don't have
a compile environment on your computer. You should only need Linux
and the "lsb" base package installed in order to run it... No
compiling required.

I believe I was able to recreate the segfault that Gerry had: It
seemed to happen around the time when I had a timeout on a file
fetch, in my case when I tried to fetch a station track. Perhaps in
Gerry's case it might have been a fetch of an internet map?
