My first suggestion would be to make sure you are plugged into the PC/Comm jack.  It sounds like you've pluged into the Data jack instead and are triggering the PTT line on that jack.

>From looking at the online manual (and that's all I can afford right now) both jacks have the same number of outside pins so it would be easy to plug the same plug into both.  The PC/Comm jack adds a center pin for ground that isn't there on the Data jack.
