Couldn't it be used as an X display with Xastir running elsewhere?

I gotta try that.  I picked up a N800 last month and love it despite
the fact it's got more Linux issues then even Xastir.  :-)   Last week
it replaced my MP3 player.  Soon it'll be my complete ham station
interface..
