The catch here is to have the right variant of aprsd. The one 
distributed by wa4dsy only works with TNCs accessed straight through 
serial ports. The one distributed via sourceforge.net also "works" with 
linux kernel ax.25 ports.

I put the previous in parenthesis, because the linux kernel ax.25 
variant really doesn't work that well; it breaks mic-e packets and all 
packets that have characters over the ascii value 127. There's a small 
patch that fixes this in the aprsd sourceforge bug tracker, but it 
hasn't been included in the downloadable release version (the most 
recent one is several years old by now).
