The junction box?  On my model, there's only analog signals present there. 
Do you mean maybe the 'Duplex cable', which appears to be a splitter of 
some sort that allows the addition of a temp/humidity sensor...

That's good news.

Current status:  I found a dual-port serial card in the junkbox.  When I 
lifted the cover to install it, I discovered that I have no 'legacy' ISA 
slots on this motherboard, but it is equipped with a COMB header!  I 
rebooted and checked the BIOS setup, and lo and behold, there was indeed a 
second serial port, disabled.  I've got that enabled, and the machine 
restarted.  So now I'm searching for documentation on the pinout of that 
header, so I can make up a proper cable.  Anybody know what the Gigabyte 
GA7-VKML standard is?
