One of my ham friends has one of these at work (Washington State
University EECS AI Lab). I asked his opinion...

I've been pretty happy with our sheeva plug.  There are a few things
to keep in mind: First, it is an ARM-based processor, so binaries have
to be compiled appropriately.  Second, 512MB of onboard flash isn't
that much...They managed to ship with a version of ubuntu on them that
fits, but depending on what you want to do, there's a decent chance
you'll have to use either SD or USB stick.

They have an LED that is controllable by software, which could be told
to do interesting things.  The default controls are for things like SD
or flash access or heartbeat, but you could write your own daemon to
reflect receiving an aprs packet, or turn it on when you have pending
messages, etc.

The onboard ethernet is Gigabit, and the USB is 2.0, so it is pretty
nice.  I'd recommend it, although it takes about 1-2 months to get it
currently due to the backlog.

As long as we are on the topic, it would be really nice to hear the experiences
of people who bought them. Are they good? Are they worth it?

Sometime in the last year or so there was a thread on this mailing list about
small Linux computers that were about the size of a wall-wart and which had
an ethernet port on 'em.  There were URLs in the emails that I remember
following and thinking "Oh, I'd better bookmark those because I'm sure I'll
have a use for such a thing sooner or later."

I can now not find any such thing in my saved emails from the list.  Nor can
I find any sign of having bookmarked any web sites with spec sheets for these
things.

Can anyone remember this, and if so, did you save the email where you can find
it?  Curt?  I think it might even have been you that posted it.
