[Xastir] Xastir black screen (fwd)

We seem to have a bug here.  After sending the last message to Murray, I 
flipped back to the desktop where xastir was running, only to find it had 
crashed, and the following messages were displayed in the terminal from 
which I launched xastir:

At zoom level 1500, I'm able to get map data displayed for an area just west of 
Hudson Bay, but as I pan west, I lose the data at about 90 deg W Longitude.
   Then as I pan south, I lose data south of 50 deg 24.000N...
   I then zoom in to zoom level 750, and I get the map display again.

It's appearing to me to be a volume of data issue.  At high zoom levels, where 
the complexity of the data presented is over some threshold, it appears that 
the renderrer just gives up...
