Did you originally install Xastir from source, or from a binary (using
'apt-get install xastir' or similar)? If the latter, I wouldn't expect
issues, though I haven't actually done this. Ubuntu's package manager
is usually pretty good about keeping things working during distro
upgrades.

If you built from source, things could potentially be trickier with a
distro upgrade. Maybe someone else has tried it an can give you some
advice.

In either case, I'd recommend making a backup of the system first just
in case you have to revert back. On a physical machine I like to take
a drive image of the entire system before a major change. That uses
quite a bit of disk storage though. On a virtual machine, snapshots
rule!
